In just one season, Keota boys’ track team has doubled in size. Eagle boys’ track coach Larry Lyle says the number of athletes out for track this season is at 14, eight more than he had on the roster a season ago. The Eagles come into the season with a lot of youth, with six of their 14 athletes being freshman.

Lyle says he expects some of the freshman to make an immediate impact on the team. “I know Luke Greiner has looked good in practice so far.” Lyle said, “He will join right in with our sprinters and will do some long jumping as well.”

Lyle also believes freshman Logan Sieren and Turner Vine will help the Eagles as middle distance runners.

The biggest strength for the Eagles heading into the season appears to be in the sprinters. Senior Ben Horras returns as the Eagles top 200 meter dash runner, posting a team-best 24.01 seconds in 2014. Junior Nate Sieren is back after posting a season-best 11.67 second time in the 100 meter dash a season ago.

The Keota Eagles boys’ track team opens the season on Thursday in the South Iowa Cedar League Indoor Track Meet at Grinnell College.
