In his four years as Washington boys’ soccer coach, Steven Caulk has brought a simple brand of soccer to the district. Caulk’s definition of simple soccer is perfecting passes and overall movement on the field.

Caulk says like many other sports, soccer is a team game. “I think it is best played when you get your teammates involved as much as possible.” Caulk said, “In order to do that you have to be very effective at passing the ball and you have to have teammates who are moving intelligently.”

Effective passing played a role in Washington’s break out season in 2014. Washington assisted on 15 of the team’s 36 goals last season, helping the Demons claim their first Southeast Conference title and record a school-record seven wins. Six of the 15 assists came from Mason Quigley, who graduated from Washington last May.

A new addition to this year’s team is KCII News Director Sally Hart as assistant coach. Hart played college soccer at Monmouth College in Monmouth Ill, and has served as a high school referee in past years.

The Washington Demon boys’ soccer team opens the season on April 14th against the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks at Wellman Recreation Center.
