In the first meet of the year, a Washington senior made a case he is the best shot put thrower in the state. Washington’s boys’ track team finished the annual Demon Indoor Invitational Friday at Cornell College in Mount Vernon.

The meet featured boys’ teams from across southern and central Iowa including: Anamosa, Cedar Rapids Prairie, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Central Lee, Davenport Central, Des Moines Roosevelt, Fairfield, Iowa City High, Iowa City Regina, Iowa City West, Mount Pleasant, Pleasant Valley, Williamsburg, and West Burlington.

Senior Tommy Peterson won yesterday’s shot put competition by nearly five feet after recording a throw of 52′ 9.0″. Mount Pleasant senior Ben Canby finished in a distant second place with a throw of 47′ 11.75″. Peterson was the only top three finisher for the Demons in Friday’s events.
