Last month, the Washington County Emergency Management Commission approved $3,250 to serve as seed money for the creation of a Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. At this week’s commission meeting, there was some question regarding insurance coverage for volunteers serving on the CERT. Questions were posed whether the CERT members would be covered by the county’s or emergency management’s workman’s compensation. Smith stated he’d ask the insurance representative for clarifications.

CERT will be a group of trained volunteers who can assist emergency personnel during disasters and major events.
