The Washington City Council did not take any action or have any discussion regarding amending Chapter 165 residential zoning code at their meeting last night. The third reading of the ordinance was initially tabled at the March 10th meeting, at which time council decided they wanted more time to review the ordinance.

Two citizens spoke of the amendments during public comment. John Greener, who lives in the neighborhood, stated there needs to be a stricter zoning code for pole buildings.

Matt Greiner, president of Greiner Buildings, asked that planning and zoning look at the issue, as it could further limit expansion. He believes the alternative building is better than a decrepit home, as it brings in more taxes and jobs, and the new building adds landscaping and sidewalks. Greiner did speak in favor of historic districts, and asked that a regulation not be passed for the entire city.
