A birthday that hasn’t occurred yet will be celebrated this evening. Captain James T. Kirk is born March 22nd, 2233 in the Star Trek universe. A birthday party for Kirk begins this evening at 7 p.m. at Murphy’s Bar and Grill in his future hometown.

In 1985, Riverside petitioned Paramount Pictures and Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, for permission to become the birthplace of Captain Kirk.  The city now celebrates Kirk’s birthday and holds Trek Fest every year.

Ken McCracken is president of the Riverside Area Community Club which plans the annual Trek Fest. McCracken invites the public to help them celebrate.

He adds they make sure to call the man who played Kirk in the original series to wish him a happy birthday. William Shatner, whose birthday actually is March 22nd, turns 84-years-old tomorrow.
