After reaching the substate final for the second time in three seasons, the Sigourney Savages boys’ basketball team was awarded with two All-Conference selections by the coaches of the South Iowa Cedar League.

Junior forward Blaine Gretter was tabbed as an All-Conference First Team selection. Gretter finished first in the conference in total rebounds with 247, an average of 10.7 rebounds per game, and was third in the league in points with 413, an average of 17.2 points per game.

On the All-Conference Second Team is junior forward Matus Stevko. Stevko was named to the second team despite leading the SICL in total points this season with 442, an average of 18.3 points per game. Sigourney boys’ basketball coach Mitch Eslick says while he feels Stevko deserved to be a First Team All-Conference selection, there are only a select number who get the distinction. “In our conference we have 11 teams and there are only seven first team All-Conference selections,” Eslick said, “It is very difficult to get on the first team because there are so many good players in our league. Unfortunately, the numbers game pushed Matus out of first team, and kept him from getting an honor we thought he deserved.”

Seniors Colby Kerkove and Colton Powers were named as All-Conference honorable mention selections.

The Sigourney Savages ended the season with an 18-5 overall record.
