Twelve fifth grade students and 12 mentors toured the KCII Radio studios yesterday. The students are at-risk students and take part in the Community Connections youth mentoring program, a partnership between the Washington Community YMCA and the Washington Community School District. The group meets twice each month and conducts full group activities, such as touring the Washington County Hospital and Clinics and learning about the various jobs in Washington.

Additional mentors will be needed for next year’s program starting in October. Program Coordinator Kerri Hall explains volunteers need to commit to two Wednesday evenings each month during the school year, go through a brief training and pass a background check. In addition, the group is looking for financial assistance from local groups, or service clubs who would be willing to lead a group meeting by sharing a talent or planning activities.
