Saturday night a two-vehicle accident with one fatality and two people transported from the scene by AirCare occurred in Keokuk County. A Chevrolet Equinox driven by 17-year-old Bethanne Cooksey of Hedrick was westbound on Highway 78 and approached the intersection with 270th Avenue. The second vehicle, a Jeep Patriot driven by 22-year-old Dakota Bogert of Bloomfield was northbound on 270th and a collision occurred in the intersection. Both vehicles came to rest in a field. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Bogert failed to stop at a stop sign.

Cooksey died as a result of the accident. Bogert and a passenger, 17-year-old Keegan Barker of Bloomfield, were taken by AirCare to the University of Iowa Hospitals. None of those involved were wearing seatbelts.

Bogert and Barker are listed in stable condition, according to the Department of Public Safety.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident remains under investigation.
