The Washington City Council tabled the third reading of an ordinance amending chapter 165 regarding residential zoning at this week’s council meeting. Matt Greiner, president of Greiner Buildings, spoke in favor of looking closer at the issue prior to approving it. He stated he’d rather have a well-kept new construction building than an abandoned, decrepit home.

Complaints came following the construction of a non-traditional residence on West Jefferson. City Administrator Brent Hinson stated the goal of the amendment was to get more residential character.

Now the planning and zoning board will review the ordinance and suggested amendments prior to council holding the third reading.
