Washington County operations expenses decreased last fiscal year by 3.3 percent from the prior year. According to the audit from Auditor of State Mary Mosiman, the total operations for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2014 totaled $17.2 million.

Washington County had local tax revenue of $35.5 million, including $1.5 million in tax credits from the state. Of the revenue, $23.7 million was forwarded to school districts, townships, cities and other taxing bodies. The county retained $10.8 million of the local tax revenue, including tax increment financing or TIF, for county operations, a 5.4 percent decrease from the prior year.
