A $17,000 contract with Mid-Michigan Kennels for two canines and five weeks of training was approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors yesterday. Chief Deputy Jared Schneider explained the department has raised $12,592.42 in donations and there is an additional $500 commitment coming in. The department is continuing to raise funds to close the $3,900 gap. He added there is money available in the sheriff’s forfeiture account which can cover the difference if the funds are not raised.

Schneider explained the two German Shepherd dogs will be picked up overseas by the trainer. The five weeks of training will be for the dogs and handlers with competency as dual purpose narcotics and patrol detection teams.
