Ground is being broken at Lake Darling State Park today for six new cabins. According to Southeast Iowa Parks Supervisor Tom Basten, work on the cabins is expected to begin today, and they should be ready to rent by October.

Garling Construction of Belle Plaine was selected to build the two bedroom cabins that will feature a kitchen, bathroom and covered deck. The company’s bid of around $1.1 million was the lowest submitted for the work.

Basten adds construction will not impact daily operations at the park.
