Another successful season for the Washington Archery teams culminated Monday evening with the team’s award banquet. Members of the Washington High School, middle school, and Lincoln Elementary archery teams came together inside the High School commons to recognize this season’s athletes.

For the first time in program history, select high school archers received varsity letters for archery. Among the criteria to letter for archery is that the person must be a top 12 shooter in six of Washington’s eight meets this season and/or a senior who has been in the program at least two years. High school archers who earned varsity letters includes seniors Kyle Basten, Alex Sinn, Jake Crider, Levi Black, Kennedy Hyde, and Trevje Karvgo; junior Jade Wells, Joseph Dalziel, and Chloe Schlatter; and sophomores John Sands, and Grace Shafer-Smith.

Plaques were award to the three archers who scored the most points for their team this season. For the Lincoln elementary team Olin Wells was the team’s best shooter with 2041 points, Lane Frana was second on the team with 1865 points, and Bryce DeWolf finished third with 1854. The middle school team’s best archer was Griffin Wood with 1797 points, second is Paige Hyde with 1731 and Joseph Tapia placed third on the team with 1710. Finally, sophomore John Sands finished as the high school’s top shooter with 2254, followed by sophomore Grace Shafer-Smith with 2200 points, and Jade Wells finished in third with 2189 points.

Eighteen Washington archery members have qualified the NASP National Tournament on May 7 through May 9 at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. The high school archers who qualified for the national competition include: John Sands, Jade Wells, Joseph Dalziel, Kyle Basten, Alex Sinn, Grace Shafer-Smith, Kylee Porter, Chloe Schlatter, Kennedy Hyde, Jake Crider, Shelby Mineart, Jessica Hora, Levi Black,Cody Mellinger, Mitchell Driscoll and Samantha Mellinger.

Elementary students Olin Wells and Kenna Rathmell will join the high school archers at the National Competition after finishing in the top 10 individually at the state competition.
