One of the premier teams in Class 1A girls’ soccer put gobs of shots on the goal Monday afternoon in Washington. The Demon girls’ soccer team (0-2 record) held their home opener yesterday afternoon against the Clear Creek Amana Clippers (2-0 record), rated fourth in the Class 1A girls’ soccer poll. The Clippers, who opened the season with a 10-0 victory over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks, hung 11 on the Demons for an 11-1 victory at Washington High School.

Despite the outcome, senior Stephanie Evans made 23 saves of the 34 shots the Clippers put on goal. Washington’s lone goal came in the 67th minute when senior Lauren Swan put the ball in the back of the net off of a deflected shot by junior Kristen Barber. It is Swan’s first goal this season.

The Clippers had two girls record hat tricks with senior Megan Hall and sophomore Kelsey Bormann each scoring three goals in the victory.

The Demon girls’ soccer team returns to action this afternoon at the Wellman Recreation Complex in a non-conference match versus the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Tune in to tomorrow’s KCII local sports page for results. Find photos of yesterday’s match with Clear Creek Amana on KCII’s Facebook Page.
