The state legislature is still at an impasse on school funding. The house has set allowable growth at 1.25%, while the senate has passed 4%. Democratic State Senator Kevin Kinney says the senate is now hoping for a funding increase of 2.65%.
According to Republican State Representative Jarad Klein, a 1.25% increase will provide an additional $100 million for Iowa’s school districts, more than half of the state’s revenue. Kinney says current funding for schools is inadequate.
Tomorrow is the 110th calendar day of the session, the last day legislators receive a daily allowance for expenses.
