Unlike the boys’ squad, the Washington Demon girls’ soccer team (0-4 overall; 0-1 Southeast) has had home field advantage this spring. This afternoon will mark the third home game of the season for the Demon girls’ soccer team as they host the 10th ranked Keokuk Chiefs (4-0 overall; 1-0 Southeast) at Washington High School.

Washington hasn’t fared well at home this season, being outscored 17-1 in losses to 4th ranked Clear Creek Amana and Fairfield. So far, senior Lauren Swan has provided the only scoring at home for Washington, recording the goal in the second half last Monday against Clear Creek Amana. Washington lost 6-0 to Fairfield on Thursday in the Southeast Conference opener for both teams.

The Chiefs are off to a fast start this season, winning each match by four or more goals. Senior Alicia Riffle has scored nine goals so far this season, the third best total currently in Class 2A.  Keokuk has outscored their opponents 25-1 this season, and started the year with four straight shutouts.

The Southeast Conference soccer battle between Washington and Keokuk kicks off at 4 p.m. at Washington High School. Listen to tomorrow’s KCII Sports Page for results.
