Competition is starting to heat up for the Washington Demon boys’ golf team. Ahead of next week’s season opener, Demon boys’ golf coach Mark Berhow says he has eight to 10 athletes vying for six starting spots on the varsity squad.

The Demon boys’ golf team begins their season on Thursday in a nine-hole meet with the Mount Pleasant Panthers. Berhow says this event is a dual on the Demons schedule, meaning more golfers can participate. “We will have a chance to bring 12 guys with us to the meet, which is always a good thing for us as a team,” Berhow said, “You get an apples to apples comparison, where here are 12 guys that we can take a same score and if there is two guys I have vying for a spot, we have the same day, same conditions, and same course to compare.”

Thursday’s meet with the Panthers is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Mount Pleasant Golf and Country Club.
