Playing without an all-conference performer, the Washington Demon boys’ golf team took to the greens Wednesday afternoon in Oskaloosa. The Indians hosted the 2015 Oskaloosa Golf Invitational at Edmundson Golf Course, and Washington finished in seventh place with 347 strokes out of 14 teams. This marks the first time this spring the Demons boys’ golf team finished lower than first in an event.

Sophomore Mason Rich had the best individual performance for the Demons in Oskaloosa, carding an 85 on Edmundson’s golf course. Rich tied four other golfers for 18th place in the tournament. Fellow sophomores Noah Enfield and Tanner Coleman finished one stroke back in a tie for 23rd place.

According to Washington boys’ golf coach Mark Berhow, junior Derek Anding was feeling under the weather Wednesday, and didn’t participate in the tournament for the Demons. Anding, a 2014 All-Conference golfer, shot an 81 in the Demons’ only 18 hole event of the season on April 14th.

The Williamsburg Raiders took the team title, completing the course in 317 strokes. Norwalk’s Carter Mallett was named the medalist of the tournament, finishing the 18 hole event in 74 strokes.

The Demon boy’ golf team return to competition Friday in a non-conference triangular against South Tama and Clear Creek Amana.
