After claiming victory on a tie breaker in their season opener on Friday, the Washington Demon boys’ golf team (2-0 overall) came back with a more convincing performance Tuesday in Columbus Junction. The Demons battled the Mid-Prairie and Columbus golf teams yesterday afternoon in a non-conference triangular at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Columbus Junction, and Washington finished the day with the lowest team score of 152.

The dual’s medalist went to Washington senior Blake Weidmann, who completed the nine-hole event in 36 strokes. To make par at the Cedar Crest Golf Course, a golfer must complete nine holes in 35 strokes. Demon teammates sophomore Mason Rich and freshman Dalton Meyers finished right behind Weidmann, both entering the clubhouse with 37 strokes on their scorecard.

The Columbus Wildcats finished the triangular in second place, finishing 15 strokes behind the Demons. Senior Chase Finke tied for the second best individual score on the afternoon, shooting a 37 in the meet.

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks ended the meet in third place, collecting 210 strokes as a team. Sophomore Duncan McCain had the best performance for the Golden Hawks, recording a nine-hole score of 48.

The Washington boys’ golf team returns to the course this afternoon, battling in a golf tournament in West Burlington. The teams set to compete in the tournament are Fort Madison, Mount Pleasant, and West Burlington.

Mid-Prairie’s boys’ golf squad also returns to the green this afternoon, competing against the Williamsburg Raiders this afternoon at Williamsburg’s Athletic Complex.

Columbus resumes regular season golf action tomorrow afternoon, hosting the Lone Tree Lions in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet at Cedar Crest Golf Course in Columbus Junction.
