The home opener for the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team (1-2 overall: 0-2 Southeast) didn’t have the outcome the team was hoping for. The Demons welcomed the Keokuk Chiefs (2-5 overall; 2-1 Southeast) to Washington High School for a Southeast Conference clash Tuesday afternoon. Keokuk left town with a 5-3 victory.

The first career varsity goal for freshman Tony Torras in the early minutes of the match to give Washington a 1-0 advantage. Then Keokuk went on a scoring run, putting four straight goals in the back of the net to take a 4-1 lead. Washington added a goal before intermission for a 4-2 halftime defect.

The teams played an even second half with each team adding a single goal to their total. Washington senior Joe Smith scored his second goal of the season to cap off the scoring for the Demons.

The loss drops Washington to 1-2 overall and remain winless in the conference play. The Demons continue Southeast Conference play on Thursday evening, traveling to Fort Madison for a battle with the Bloodhounds.
