The start of the Southeast Conference season hasn’t gone the way the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team (1-4 overall; 0-4 Southeast) had hoped for. A year removed from sharing the conference title with the Fairfield Trojans, the Demons find themselves winless through the first round of league matches.

Washington steps out of Southeast Conference play this afternoon, hosting the Mediapolis Bulldogs (1-5 overall) of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference.

Washington’s only win came in non-conference play, a 2-0 season opening victory over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks on April 14. Five Demons have registered two goals so far this season, including Joe Smith, Christian Mejia, Tony Torres. Andres Gutierrez, and Giovanni Coronel. Smith has recorded a team-leading two assists.

The Bulldogs are off to a slow start this soccer season. Their only offense generated so far this spring came during a 4-3 victory over the Central Lee Hawks on April 13. Mediapolis has been outscored 23-0 in their five losses.

The non-conference boys’ soccer clash between Washington and Mediapolis is set to kickoff at 6 p.m. from Washington High School.
