The early season road schedule continues this afternoon for the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team (1-0 overall) as they travel to Fairfield to open Southeast Conference play tonight against the Trojans (0-2).

Washington began the 2015 season with a memorable victory Tuesday evening in Wellman. The Demons scored two goals off the foot of junior midfielder Christian Mejia. Freshman goal keeper Thomas Zimmer had 13 saves in his varsity debut as Washington knocked off the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks 2-0. The win was the first for Washington over Mid-Prairie in boys’ soccer.

Fairfield has stumbled in early season non-conference play. The Trojans have dropped their first two games, the latest one coming Monday in a 5-4 loss to the Mount Pleasant Panthers at Fairfield High School. Trojan junior Solomon Constant has scored a team-high three goals this season.

These two teams shared the Southeast Conference soccer title last year, spliting the regular season series. Fairfield bested Washington in the third and final match between the schools in last season’s district tournament 5-2.

Tonight’s varsity boys’ soccer game between Washington and Fairfield kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Fairfield High School. Tune into tomorrow’s KCII local sports page for results from the meet.
