One of the premier teams in Class 1A girls’ soccer is coming to Washington this afternoon. The Demons are hosting the Clear Creek Amana Clippers, the fourth rated team in Class 1A of the WaMaC-West Conference at the soccer pitch outside Washington High School.

The Demons lost their season opening contest in Columbus Junction last Tuesday, falling 3-2 in overtime to the Wildcats. Demon senior Kayla Schindler scored two second half goals to help Washington force the game into overtime. Washington allowed the game winning goal minutes into the extra period to take the loss.

The Clippers opened their season with ease last Tuesday in Tiffin, winning 10-0 over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks. Clear Creek Amana, who won 15 of their 18 matches last season, put 31 shots on goal and had three players score two or more goals. Sophomore Hannah Bormann recorded a hat trick, sending a game-high three goals into the back of the net. Seniors Bailey Mooney and Kelsey Hall added two goals each in the victory.

Washington and Clear Creek Amana met on the pitch last season in Tiffin. The Clippers came away with a 10-0 victory.

The varsity game is set to kick off at 4:30 p.m. at Washington High School. Tune in to tomorrow’s KCII Sports Page for results from the match and look for photos on KCIIRadio.com.
