The track at Case Field has been very good to the Washington girls’ track team this season. The Demons girls’ track team held the 41st Washington Girls’ Invitational Track Meet Thursday evening at Case Field, and Washington came away with a second place finish.

The Benton Bobcats claimed the team title, scoring 154 points in the meet. Washington, who took first place during the co-ed Demon Relays on April 10th, finished second best with 135.5 team points.

Washington girls’ track coach Stefanie Tschantz says she was pleased with the effort put forth by freshman Kayla Andrews, “She opened up in the 4×800 meter relay posting her fastest split by a good four or five seconds.” Tschantz said, “She turned around to win the open 400 and anchored our sprint medley team with a 62 second split.”

The 400 meter dash and the sprint medley team were the only first place finishes last night for the Demons.

Senior sprinter Macy Marek didn’t compete in the meet, as she recieved a last minute invitation to run in today’s 100 meter dash competition at the Drake Relays. Marek is scheduled to run at 8:31 a.m. Friday in Des Moines.

The next meet for the Washington Demon girls’ track team comes Thursday evening as the squad travels to Wayland for the Warrior Relays at WACO High School.
