The Lone Tree Lion girls’ track team got off to a great start to the outdoor season last Tuesday in Belle Plaine thanks in part to the performance of a two time state qualifier.. The Lions scored 155 points, outduelling six other region schools for a first place at Belle Plaine Invite’s Class B event. It was Lone Tree’s invitational win since taking first place at the WACO Invite in 2012.

Seventeen Lion athletes scored in the meet, led by junior Paige Doehrmann who scored 24.5 points individually. Doehrmann, a two-time state qualifier in the 400 meter dash and the 4×100 meter relay team, took first place in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes, and also was apart of the Lions top placing 4×400 meter relay team.

Lion girls’ track coach Caylon DeVaul says Doehrmann success starts with her mindset in preparing for competitions. “Her work ethic hands down is the best I have ever had in coaching as far as someone coming to you and asking what can I do to get better.” DaVaul said, “In practice, she is always up towards the front and is determined never to be beat in a sprint or in a work out.”

Doehrmann and the Lion girls’ track team are competing twice this week. They will compete in Mediapolis this afternoon, and on Thursday will compete in the Demon Relays at Case Field in Washington.
