A group of Wellman residents are again organizing a communal garden. The individuals started the community garden three years ago to give people unable to have their own garden a place to grow fresh produce.

Beth Shetler is one of the organizers. She says in addition to the 10 by 12 foot plots they have available, there is a section managed by volunteers. She explains the food grown on that section is donated to food banks, a nursing home and the Wellman Senior Dining Center, as well as Iowa Mennonite School and Mid-Prairie School District.

A sign-up and informational meeting for those interested in renting a plot is being held this evening at 6:30 p.m. at Wellman Mennonite Church.
