On a cool windy day in Wellman the Preseason 6th ranked in Class 1A Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys’ soccer team took the field for their first regular season game of the year as they took on the seventh ranked in Class 2A Clear Creek Amana Clippers. The Golden Hawks lost in their home opener, 2-1.

The first goal was scored by Mid-Prairie in the 21st minute senior Jordan Ulin scored on a mishandle by the Clippers’ goalie. In the second half the Clippers answered back with a goal of their own by sophomore Wyatt Sedlacek in the 53rd minute.

At the end of regulation the game was tied 1-1. In the first round of overtime, the Clippers scored on a breakaway goal by senior Joh Jacobson in the 89th minute.

Mid-Prairie’s head coach Pat Cady didn’t put any blame on his goalie for not making the save in overtime, “Yeah, you gave up a goal, but there were 10 people ahead of you that let the goal come to you so there was another 10 people that failed. Unfortunately he is the last one on the line. He probably should of came out, been more aggressive with his hands down to close down faster than what he did. I think he might of taken a couple of steps back, but once again inexperience, it’s the first game of the year and he will build off it.”

Goalkeeper sophomore Nathan Reed finished with four saves in the game. The Golden Hawks will have another tough match up on Thursday night as they take on the Comets of West Liberty.
