The fastest athlete on the Washington Demon boys’ track team has recorded one of the best times in the state in the 110 meter hurdles. During last Monday’s Falcon Relays, senior Jacob Hennigan’s recorded a career-best 15.22 seconds in the 110 meter hurdles, the fifth best time in Class 3A heading into this week’s competition.

Washington boys’ track coach Steve Roth says Hennigan’s time has him on the bubble for the Drake Relays. “I know 15.20 made it last year, but the year before that 15.40 made it.”

Among the four athletes with better times in the 110 meter hurdles than Hennigan, two are from Mount Pleasant High School. Senior Cole Phillips has the fastest time in Class 3A, recording a time of 14.22 seconds in the Falcon Relays on Monday. Phillip’s teammate, senior Spencer White, ran the 110 hurdles in 15.14 seconds on Thursday at Mount Pleasant’s Co-Ed track meet, currently the third best time in Class 3A.

The second fastest athlete in Class 3A in the 110 meter hurdles is Solon senior Connor Ham. Ham, who ran the event in 14.30 seconds, is expected to run against Hennigan on Tuesday at the Raider Relays held at Williamsburg High school.

The person directly in front of Hennigan is senior Dane Kruse of Glenwood High School. Kruse record a time of 15.21 in the 110 meter hurdles, just one-tenth of a second faster than Hennigan. Glenwood is located in southwest corner of Iowa.
