A show hosted annually in the Quilt Capitol of Iowa returns this weekend for its 44th year. The Kalona Quilt Show began as a small event in the basement of what’s now Freedom Security Bank. The show started by Woodin Wheel Antiques owner Marylin Woodin has been held at the Kalona Community Center since the early 70s and continues to be held by Katie Karnes and Brenda Herington, who purchased the antique store in 2003.

Karnes says they’ll have new pieces made by quilters from the area, around Iowa and neighboring states. Antique quilts made between 1840 and 1940 will also be on display.

The show and sale is being held this evening from 5 to 8 p.m., tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
