A Highland senior basketball player will continue her hoops career at the same college where her older sister played. Chelsey Lampe, an All-State, All-Region, and All-Conference basketball player for the Huskies this season, signed a letter of intent Monday afternoon to play college basketball for the Mount Mercy University Mustangs.

Lampe led the Huskies in scoring with 279 total points this season, and closed the year second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North in total steals with 110. Her play garnered a number of postseason awards including: a second team All-State selection, being named a Class 2A All-Region player, and was chosen as a First Team All-SEISC North selection for the third straight year.

Lampe says she is happy with her decision to join the Mustang basketball team. “My sister went there, so I got a preview of what it is like.” Lampe said, “I like the program, I like Coach (Aaron) Jennings, and I also like the size of Mount Mercy. It isn’t too big but it isn’t small. ”

Chelsey’s sister, Becca Lampe, played for the Mustangs from 2008-12. In 87 college career games, Becca Lampe averaged four points per game for Mount Mercy.

The Mustangs finished the 2014-15 season with a 19-14 overall record, falling 56-52 to the Clark Crusaiders in the Midwest Collegiate Conference championship game.
