Performing in front of their home crowd, the Lone Tree Lion boys’ track team put together another stellar meet performance Monday afternoon. The Lions hosted the Lone Tree Invite and the home team came away in first place with 147 points.

The invitational featured several KCII area teams like WACO, Highland, and Keota.

Lone Tree senior Travis Gillham scored the Lions’ two first place finishes. Gillham was the top 400 meter dash runner, crossing the finish line in 53.9 seconds. He teamed up with seniors Nick Viner, Jared Hudson and Ty Schillerstrom to win the 4×100 meter dash in 46.1 seconds. Gillham also finished in second place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet 4 inches. His teammate, senior Nico Gosnell, placed first leaping 5 feet 8 inches.

Other top finishers for the Lions at the Lone Tree Invite featured sophomore Jovonte Squires in the long jump competition, leaping an invite best 20 feet five inches. The Lions’ 4×200 relay team of Squires, Hudson, Viner, and Schillerstrom also placed first with a time of 1:37.5.

WACO came in at a distant second place with 86 points, and had several first place finishers at the event. Junior Bryce Achen took home first place in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Achen ran the 100 meter dash in 11.1 seconds, and sprinted 200 meters in 23.22 seconds. The Warriors’ 4×800 meter dash team of Braden Blake, Jorge Chaconm, Mitchell Schafer, and B.J Rogers took first place at the Lone Tree Invite, finishing the event in 8:57.96.

Highland came in fifth place with 55 points, but had three top finishers in the meet. Senior Jake Yeggy took home top honors in the shot put competition, hurling the shot 43 feet 10.75 inches. Senior Keiffer Sexton placed first in both the 1600 meter and 3200 meter runs. Keiffer’s one mile time was 4:54.75 and recorded a two mile time of 10:28.55. The final first place finisher for the Huskies is senior Bill Bean, who represented Highland in the 110 meter hurdles. Bean posted a time of 16.02 seconds.

Keota finished in sixth place with 53 points.
