The master matrix was discussed at yesterday’s Washington County Board of Supervisors meeting. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources explains the master matrix as a scoring system used to evaluate where confinement feeding operations should be placed. Supervisor chairman Jack Seward explained the board received a survey from the Dickinson County Supervisors asking for each supervisor to state whether they are in favor, are not in favor or have no opinion on more local control for the master matrix.

Seward added he doesn’t support having the master matrix in Washington County.

Each year the supervisors consider whether to adopt the program in January and Stan Stoops said it was too early to say where he falls.

Following the meeting Seward was the only supervisor who indicated on the survey where he stands – no opinion to master matrix repair for more local control.
