The Mid-Prairie boys’ track team is heading to Wapello for the Indian Relays tonight.

This meet was a last minute addition for the Golden Hawks. They have had two meets cancelled due to inclement weather. Head coach Shawn Powell says it’s been frustrating losing those opportunities. “We have had two meets cancelled that we really needed to run at and we got them cancelled, kind of disappointed in the overall scheme of things. We had great practices but weren’t able to run.”

The Golden Hawks are coming off of a third place finish in the Demon Relays on Friday. Key individual performances come from sophomore Levi Duwa who received gold in the discus with a throw of 135 feet and four inches. He also achieved bronze in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet and 10 inches. The 4×800 team featured first place as well with a time of 8:59, the team includes Peyton Miller, Brent Foster, Andrew Schwartz, and Jared Draper. Senior Colin Weber will look to continue to improve in the 400 meter dash. Weber received second place with a time of 53.05 seconds cutting .12 seconds off his previous personal best time.

Teams running at Wapello tonight are West Branch, West Liberty, Washington, Columbus, Lone Tree, Central Lee, Mediapolis, West Burlington and Winfield-Mount Union.

The meet will take place today at 4:30 p.m. in Wapello.
