The Mid-Prairie boys’ and girls’ golf teams are preparing for a dual match up with the West Branch Bears.

Mid-Prairie boys’ golf coach Kelby Bender says he has been liking the progression from his young team, “In each meet the boys get more confident and are getting a little bit better. We have a young team, were seeing our scores go down a bit each meet. They’re getting excited to see the progress they’re making.”

The Golden Hawks will begin play at 4 p.m. at the Kalona Golf Club.

The Mid-Prairie girls will be on the road when they take on West Branch. Head coach Traci McArtor says there were going to be some growing pains for this season, “We knew coming into this year, the experience factor would be a factor for us. We only have two kids that played a lot of varsity golf last year. Allison Wertz, is our leading scorer this year with about a 45 average and has really held up the team overall. The five kids after that are pretty all even matched as far as averages go. They’re around the 60 range, we need to get them in the mid-50’s for us as a team to try to be competitive as we move to the lighter half of the year.”

The Golden Hawks will tee off at 4 p.m. at the Fox Run Golf Course in West Branch.
