Mid-Prairie’s property tax levy is set to increase $1.25 next fiscal year if the state legislature doesn’t reach a compromise. Under the budget submitted to the county, the district’s tax rate will be around $13.70 per $1,000 in assessed value.

According to business manager Jeff Swartzentruber, this is partially due to the debt service going from roughly $1.25 to $2.40. He says another factor is the district’s goal to build a reserve in the management fund, which goes to pay for insurance obligations on an ongoing basis and the deductable that would need to be paid if there’s a claim.

Homeowners in the district may see some relief if the legislature reaches a compromise on allowable growth. Swartzentruber says if the house and senate increase funding by two percent, the district’s tax levy would be closer to $13.
