The Mid-Prairie boys’ and girlstrack teams will be back on the track as they head to Mt. Pleasant today.

This will be the girls’ second track meet of the season. Head Coach Chris Tyler says the team is progressing, but still trying to fit some pieces together, “We’re making progress, still working out some of the freshmen to see where they are at, what they can do and where they are best suited.” Teams participating on the girls’ side is Davenport Assumption , Central Lee, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Iowa City, Mediapolis, Ottumwa, Washington, West Burlington and Davenport North.

The Mid-Prairie boys will be competing in their first track meet as a complete team today. Mid-Prairie’s first meet at Washington was cancelled, but a few Golden Hawks participated at Cornell College for the River Valley Conference Meet last Thursday.

Head Coach Aaron Flemming thinks this will be a measuring stick for his team, “Always a good meet, some quality 3A schools. Mt. Pleasant has a good program, with hurdlers and outstanding runners. We will also see West Burlington-Notre Dame, who with their jumps, sprinters and hurdlers are the cream of the crop in Class 2A. It’s fun to watch them perform and it’s great to compete against them. They won our state qualifying meet last year by quite a bit. We’re excited to see how we stack up against them early in the season.”

Teams participating in the meet are Davenport Assumption, Burlington, Cedar Rapids – Jefferson, Des Moines Lincoln, Eddyville-Blakesburg, Fairfield, Fort Madison, Mid-Prairie, Ottumwa and West Burlington.

The meet will begin today at 4:30 p.m. at the Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mt. Pleasant.
