In her final game against the Washington Demon (0-3 overall) on the soccer pitch, Mid-Prairie senior Ashley Miller had a memorable performance. Miller scored a career-high four goals, two in each half, to help the Mid Prairie Golden Hawks (1-1 overall) defeat the Demons 6-1 in non-conference soccer action at the Wellman Recreation Complex.

The Golden Hawks second game of the season was a large improvement from their first, a 10-0 defeat from the 4th ranked Clear Creek Amana Clippers. Miller says the difference was the speed of the two teams defense. “We saw that their back line wasn’t as fast as Clear Creek (Amana) was so we took advantage of that.” Miller said, “Our back line was very strong tonight and that also helped us get the win.”

The performance was similar to one Miller put together against the Demons last season, scoring a hat trick in a 4-1 victory last season in Washington. A hat trick is when someone scores three goals in a single game.

Mid-Prairie senior Ali Riggan accounted for the Golden Hawks other two goals scored in the match.

Washington’s lone goal came off the foot of junior Stacy Ramirez, finding the net in the 28th minute to cut Washington’s deficit to 3-1.

The win improves Mid-Prairie to 1-1 overall on the season. The loss keeps Washington winless, dropping their overall record to 0-3.

The Golden Hawks’ next game comes Thursday evening in Columbus Junction against the Wildcats. Washington opens conference play on Thursday against the Fairfield Trojans.
