Washington’s Tommy Peterson put on another top performance in the shot put Tuesday evening in Wellman. The Demon boys’ track team traveled to Mid-Prairie High School for the Hawks Co-Ed Relays and finished in seventh place out of 10 teams with 25 points.

Ten of the team points came off the right hand of Peterson, who hurled the shot put 53 feet 6.75 inches. The throw was 2 feet and 0.75 inches off his personal best throw. Peterson has yet to be beaten in competition this season, and comes into Thursday’s Drake Relays with the sixth farthest throw in the state.

Fellow senior Jacob Hennigan added eight team points with his performance in the 110 meter hurdles. Hennigan crossed the finish line in second place with a time of 14.96 seconds. The time was one-tenth of second slower than his Drake Relays qualifying time.

The high school events of the Drake Relays begins Thursday afternoon with the field events. Peterson is set to throw the shot put at 3:30 p.m. in Des Moines. Hennigan’s preliminaries for the 110 meter hurdles begins Friday at 8:15 a.m.
