The Mid-Prairie boys’ and girls’ golf teams tee off their seasons today against the West Liberty Comets.

The boys are coming into this year with more experience after playing all freshmen last season. The Golden Hawks start the meet at 4 p.m. at the West Liberty Country Club.

On the girls’ side, junior Alison Wertz and sophomore Olivia Nisly are coming back from the team that competed at the state meet last year. Wertz placed 24th individually at state and shot a 188. The Golden Hawks finished sixth as a team in state with a total of 770. Head coach Tracy McArtor says this match is a good starting point for his team, “We play West Liberty probably four times during the year. We usually have pretty good matches with them, they do a good job getting prepared too. It’ll be a good test right off the gate, just to see where we stand against a team that has a bit more experience.”

The meet is set to begin at 2:30 p.m. today at the Kalona Golf Club.
