Only trace amounts of rain fell in Washington Thursday. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Southeast Iowa is now part of the 48.9 percent of the state considered abnormally dry. Most of Eastern Iowa is in the same category at this time. Last week, only 27.8 percent of the state was abnormally dry. At this time last year, 82.3 percent of Iowa was abnormally dry, with 56.7 percent in moderate drought and 6.8 percent in severe drought.
