Entering the final week of April, the Washington Demon boys’ soccer team (1-3 overall; 0-3 Southeast) has found themselves in the middle of an early season conference losing streak. Since posting a 2-0 shutout victory against county rival Mid-Prairie, the Demons have given up 15 goals in losses to Fairfield, Keokuk, and Fort Madison to start the Southeast Conference portion of their schedule. Washington looks to end their three-game losing steak this afternoon in Mount Pleasant against the Panthers (2-3 overall; 1-2 Southeast).

A factor in the Demons early struggles has been their offensive output. Washington comes into the week with a Southeast Conference low eight goals scored this season. Senior Joe Smith, junior Christian Mejia, and freshman Tony Torres each have recorded two goals for Washington, while junior Giovanni Coronel and freshman Andres Gutierrez have scored one goal a piece.

Mount Pleasant is in the midst of a four game losing streak, being outscored 14-3 in those contests. Senior Zoom Gwamna and freshman Tanner Ruby are tied for the team lead with two goals. Six other players each have tallied one goal.

The boys’ soccer match between Washington and Mount Pleasant commences at 4:30 p.m. at the Maple Leaf Complex in Mount Pleasant.
