A tornado warning was issued for portions of Washington and Keokuk counties at 3:39 p.m. Thursday by the National Weather Service. Larry Smith, Washington and Keokuk County Emergency Management Coordinator, tells KCII News that storm spotters reported seeing rotation over the eastern portion of Keokuk County. Smith stated that there was no confirmation of a touchdown. The tornado warning expired at 4:15 p.m. and was followed by a severe thunderstorm warning until 5 p.m.

Hail was reported in Washington and 0.8 inches of rain fell in Washington yesterday. A tree was reported down and partially on a car following the storm in the 200 block of West 2nd Street in Washington.

The KCII Severe Weather Action Team responded to the storm and was on air live providing updates and information from area authorities, including Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar and WeatherEye meteorologitsts. Even when the power goes out we stay on air with our back up generators.
