Several regional opponents are set to challenge the Washington Demon boys’ golf team this afternoon in Oskalossa. Boys’ golf teams from Fairfield, Grinnell, Mount Pleasant, Norwalk, Pella, Winterset, and Williamsburg will battle one another in the 2015 Boys’ Oskaloosa Golf Invitational at the Edmundson Golf Course.

This marks the second 18-hole event for the Washington Demon boys’ golf team this spring. The first one saw the Demons come away victorious over Mount Pleasant, Fort Madison, and Burlington Notre Dame with a low score of 330 strokes. The Mount Pleasant Panthers are the lone team Washington has faced prior to today’s tournament. The Demons have defeated the Panthers twice by slim margins. The first victory came via a tiebreaker in a Southeast Conference dual on April 10 at the Washington Golf and Country Club. The Demons edged the Panthers by three strokes to take first place in the 2015 Burlington Golf Tournament on April 14.

Washington’s best 18-hole individual scores of the season have come from junior Derek Anding and freshman Dalton Meyers, who both carded an 81 during the Burlington Golf Tournament. Sophomore Mason Rich was two shots back of Anding and Meyers, finishing his lone 18 hole event in 83 strokes.

Norwalk brings the best 18-hole team average into the tournament. In two 18-hole rounds, the Indians have registered a 329.5 stroke average, a half stroke lower than the Washington Demons 330. The Pella Little Dutch aren’t far behind, coming into play this afternoon with an 18-hole average of 332 strokes.

The 2015 Boys’ Oskaloosa Golf Invitational is set to tee off at 2 p.m. at the Edmondson Golf Course in Oskaloosa.
