Several top performances helped the Washington Demons girls’ track team secure their first event win of the season. Washington hosted the Demon Relays Friday afternoon at Case Field in town.

The Demon girls’ track team took home first place honors in 10 of the relay’s 19 events, winning their own meet with 193 points. Washington doubled up on points in nine events last night, including the discuss throw, shot put, high jump, long jump, the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, 400 meter dash, 800 meter run, and the 3000 meter run.

On the track, senior Macy Marek accounted for the most team points from the competition. Marek posted first place finishes individually in the 100 meter (12.78) and 200 meter (27.98) dashes. She also was apart of the Demons top placing 4×100 meter (53.70) relay and 800 meter (2:01.44) sprint medley teams.

Other track stars for the Demons Friday evening included freshman Kayla Andrew, who won the 400 meter dash competition with a time of 1:05.25. Andrew’s edged Fairfield sophomore Sami Fritz by fifteen-hundredths of a second.

Washington controlled many of the field events at the Demon Relays. Senior Dylan Schluetter threw the discuss 110 feet, the top throw at the meet. Junior McKayla Miller earned first place honors in the shot put competition, throwing the shot 33 feet 11.75 inches. A pair of Demon underclassmen record two highest jumps of the evening in the girls’ competition. Freshman Meredith Raber and sophomore Makenzi Marek both jumped four feet two inches for a one-two finish in the high jump.

The Demon girls’ track team has two competitions scheduled next week. The squad travels to Fort Madison for the Bloodhound Invitational on Tuesday and finish the week in Eddyville-Blakesburg on Thursday in the Rocket Relays.
