For the first time this spring, the Washington Demon boys’ and girls’ track teams will compete at the same location on the same day. The track squads are scheduled to take part in the Raider Invite at Williamsburg High School this afternoon.

Can senior Tommy Peterson finish another shot put competition in first place for the Demon boys’ track team? Peterson has yet to be out thrown this spring, including breaking Washington’s 19 year shot put record at the Falcon Relays with a throw of 55 feet and one-half inch.

Senior Jacob Hennigan is expected to face another stiff competitor in the 110 meter hurdles in Solon senior Connor Ham. Ham has the second fastest time in Class 3A competition in the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 15.14 seconds. Hennigan’s fastest time was recorded last Monday when he ran the event in a career-best time of 15.22 seconds.

The teams a part of the Raider Invite this afternoon include: Mid Prairie, Benton, Grinnell, Lisbon, Solon, and Williamsburg.

The Washington girls’ track team comes into the week off of two second place finishes at the Falcon Relays on Tuesday and the Bullette Relays on Thursday. Macy Marek posted two first place finishes in the 200 meter dash last week. Currently, Marek has the fourth fastest time in Class 3A in the 200 meter dash, concluding the race in 26.98 seconds at the Falcon Relays.

Junior Emme Keith posted a first place finish in the 3000 meter runs at the Falcon Relays, crossing the finish line in 12:22.82. Keith ended the week with a second place finish in the 1500 meter run at the Bullette Relays, recording a time of 5:36.60. The teams scheduled to be a part of the Raider Invite this afternoon include: Mid Prairie, Iowa Mennonite School, Belle Plaine, Benton, Grinnell, Mount Vernon, Solon, and Williamsburg.
