Homes will likely be connected to Hills’ new water supply system later this year. The city is having the system, including a water tower and water plant, constructed by two contractors for roughly $5 million.

According to city administrator Cathy Fitzmaurice-Hill, crews are working on the water mains, and they’re expected to start connecting homes to the system this fall. She adds work on the water plant is done for the most part, while groundwork is just beginning on the water tower. A completion date in late-May is anticipated for the water tower.

The effort to install a water supply network began in 2004, and a ballot measure in support of the project passed in the fall of 2012.
