Each year American flags are put on display during the Memorial Day weekend in Washington. Jones & Eden Funeral Home started the Avenue of Flags project in 1981 with approximately 60 flags. Funeral Director Marty Beenblossom tells KCII that this year about 425 will be on display. For a list of those who the flags are flown in memory of click here.

The flags will be on display in Elm Grove Cemetery today through 6 p.m. Monday.

Also, Monday at 10 a.m. American Legion Post 29 will host a Memorial Day Service at the Washington High School with Dr. Noli Mendoza speaking and Pastor Dave Watson singing, doors open at 9:30 a.m.
