The Click It or Ticket campaign across Iowa and the U.S. will be focusing on seat belt enforcement this Memorial Day weekend, especially during the overnight hours. This is due in part to data that shows nearly half of the more than 21,000 passenger vehicle occupants who were killed on roads across the country in 2013 were not wearing seatbelts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For males between 13 and 15 years old that number jumped to over 67 percent.
Over the past 10 years, Iowa has averaged 5.3 traffic fatalities during the three-day Memorial Day weekend. Remember to buckle up.
