Back to back competitions rendered two second place finishes for the Washington Demon boys’ golf team.

On Friday, Washington played at the Amana Colonies Golf Course in a quadrangular with Vinton-Shellsburg, Clear Creek Amana, and South Tama. The Demons took second place in the meet, finishing with 168 strokes. Vinton-Shellsburg won the competition with 165 strokes. Clear Creek Amana came in one shot behind Washington, while South Tama finished in fourth place with 213 strokes.

Freshman Dalton Meyers had the best outing on Friday, taking home medalist honors after shooting a 38 for the Demons. Meyers was two shots better than the entire field.

The boys’ golf team put their best 18 hole effort of the season together on Saturday, battling in the 2015 Fairfield Invitational golf tournament. Washington shot 320 as a team, a 10 stroke improvement from their first 18 hole event of the season, and placed second among the seven team field. Meyer once again was the Demons’ top golfer, carding a 77 on Saturday. Junior Derek Anding was two shots behind Meyers for his best 18 hole finish of the spring.

The Washington boys’ golf team returns to competition Tuesday morning. The Demons will battle Decorah and Williamsburg with tee time set for 11 a.m. at the Spring Hill Golf Course in Livermore.
